Reparations Panel Discussion
Our Social Justice Committee is hosting a Guest Panel to learn more about reparations and reconciliation for the harms done to enslaved people and Indigenous people and their descendants. The committee will describe reparations for past harms that have been explored when UU congregations and others sell their properties. The panel will provide perspectives from two local BIPOC community members: Destiny Brown and Stephanie Van Hoose.
Destiny Brown is a community wellness advocate, founder of the Dayton Tenant Union, and Community Organizer with Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE). Stephanie Van Hoose is the founder of REACH Indigenous Advocacy, is a tribally enrolled citizen of The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte T-MT. She is a culture bearer, and is the granddaughter and niece of residential school survivors.
Please plan to join us for this enlightening discussion. A light lunch will be served at 1:15 pm; RSVP for lunch is requested but not required (to do so, please email Lynn Buffington at ABUFFLG@gmail.com).
