Being Mortal: Pastoral Care Video & Discussion
BEING MORTAL
A Community Screening & Discussion
Sunday, FEB 4th, 12:30 PM, in the Sanctuary at MVUUF
We invite you to join us in viewing and discussing Being Mortal, a FRONTLINE public television documentary that explores the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness, and their relationships with the doctors who care for them. We will follow the viewing with a discussion facilitated by our Pastoral Care Team.
The documentary follows Dr. Atul Gawande, author of the bestselling book, Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End, as he is learning to think about death and dying in the context of being a healer, and in sharing the difficulty in having important conversations so the person’s true priorities are known and honored at the end.
Using guidelines from the Hospice Foundation, we hope that after watching the documentary and participating in the discussion that follows, you will:
- Gain an increased awareness and understanding of advance care planning resources;
- Understand that being proactive about end-of-life conversations and planning is an important part of medical care and will affect your future and your family’s future;
- That you have the opportunity to share what matters most at the end of life.
This event will be held on Sunday, FEB 4th, 12:30 PM, in the Sanctuary, and is open to all members and interested guests. The documentary will last about an hour, and we’ll allow 45 minutes for discussion. Light snacks will be served, and you can feel free to bring lunch with you.
