West Dayton Action Group
Through education, service and advocacy, the West Dayton Action Group seeks opportunities for MVUUF to be involved in the West Dayton community. Possible opportunities include tutoring at Westwood School, volunteering at the Wesley Community Center, and supporting an annual baby shower for young mothers in the Westwood Community.
This action group also coordinates MVUUF’s participation in community organizing, which impacts decisions affecting political, economic, educational and social systems in our society. It involves our participation as an institutional member in a community organization that develops sufficient power and civic voice to identify and influence critical social issues in the area.
This approach presumes that social change can occur when we learn how to harness people power and organize and influence those in power to address conditions of injustice.
The Miami Valley Unitarian Fellowship is a member of the Leadership for Equality and Action in Dayton (LEAD). This group was founded in 1992 as a non-profit and non-partisan organization that brings together large numbers of people across racial, denominational and economic lines to make a difference in our neighborhoods and local decision making. Its mission is:
to build a strong, grassroots community organization, dedicated to empowering and preparing people of faith to work for a greater degree of justice in Montgomery County.
