Activities and Events Keep Us Connected
MVUUF events include annual events and celebrations. Some of our major yearly events are or have been:
Men Who Cook
A favorite event, this fundraiser dinner is typically held during the winter. The entire meal and evening of entertainment is hosted by the men of the Fellowship. From appetizers to desserts, it’s an event to remember!
Every spring, MVUUF holds a fund-raiser called a service auction in which members and friends offer items to be auctioned. The items include tickets to dinners and fun activities such as bird walks or canoeing trips.
There is also a silent auction in which tasty treats, homemade crafts and helpful services are offered for bid. The evening is a festive event with wine and food where everyone participates and goes home with something of value.
This annual tradition is a collaboration between our Youth Religious Education and Activities. This fun event includes a Maypole, celebration of earth based religions, and a potluck after the first Sunday service in May.
Trunk or Treat
Another collaboration between YRE and Activities is a well attended public Halloween Trunk or Treat. In addition to the decorated cars distributing treats in our parking lot, there are other activities such as a flashlight run through the MVUUF labyrinth and roasting marshmallows while listening to very animated storytelling.
A beloved tradition is to share a potluck Thanksgiving dinner. Most years we have Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving day itself. Some years we also share a Thanksgiving dinner on the Saturday evening or Sunday noon before Thanksgiving.
MVUUF hosts a small Christmas dinner on Christmas day for those who want to share that day with our MVUUF community. The meal concludes with singing around the piano.
We have hosted a number of nationally touring musicians for evening concerts, many of whom were first introduced through performances at Southeast Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute.
Concerts have included: Brother Sun, Wishing Chair, Roy Zimmerman, Bob Sima, Shelley Segal, Peter Mayer, Tret Fure, Zoe Mulford, Greg Greenway, and the nationally acclaimed a cappella group, Eleventh Hour.
